Top 5 Video Game Music Podcasts of 2022

Five years ago, there were only a few podcasts about the gaming industry. Today, there seem to be hundreds of them.

I listen to over 20 different shows each week. Some are gaming-related, others aren’t, but most podcasts about video game music (VGM) ended up being very helpful for me as a composer and indie game developer.

Some of them gave me great ideas, helping me to find more contracts in the gaming industry as a video game composer and as a session musician.

Sound Business Podcast

Akash Thakkar, experienced video game composer and brilliant educator, interviews successful audio professionals from every corner of the music and sound industries. From educators, performers, pop stars, game audio professionals, and everything in between, he dives deep into the business and mindset skills it takes to “make it” in the worlds of music and sound.

Music Respawn

Kate Remington (a wonderful radio veteran) combines her love of music and video games in this series of informal conversations with composers and performers of game soundtracks. Loads of professional tips and amazing music in the interviews.

XVGM Radio

Done in the style of a radio show. It was established in 2018 with one simple mission in mind: to bring an eclectic mix of Video Game Music to our ears! Each episode brings new music, insightful analysis or memories about the soundtracks played live, new topics, and interesting guests directly from the gaming industry.

Rhythm and Pixels

Rhythm and Pixels is a weekly podcast devoted to great music composed for video games. Hosts Rob Nichols and Pernell Vaughan pick tracks based on topics and discuss the music and games. I found their podcast entertaining and perfect to chill and learn more about games music.

Super Marcato Bros.

Geek podcast which shares, discusses, and analyzes the best in video game music from all different generations. Topics of discussion include composition, melody, harmony, chords, and rhythm, as well as technical aspects, such as hardware limitations and production. They release a new episode every Monday.
